Import from WinCross

Import from WinCross is a first step towards creating crosstabs and running reports and lets you build Components from WinCross job and data files that have been exported to an XML format for WinCross Executive. Components are then used for building the tables and banners of Crosstabs.

Some WinCross job file features cannot be exported to WinCross Executive including LOC+, VAR+, CALC, Indexed variables, Glossary variables and record/column logic.

Creating a WinCross Executive (.wcec) file from WinCross

  • Within WinCross open the job and data file you would like to export to WinCross Executive.

  • Under WinCross Executive select Export Job to a WinCross Executive Package.

  • Choose between tables, banners, or both.

  • Enter the desired output file name.

  • There will now be a *.wcec file within the directory of your WinCross job and data file that can be uploaded to WinCross Executive.

Results may vary for some tables because WinCross Executive uses full decimal precision while WinCross is limited to precision based on the width of the field.

  • To import a file from WinCross (*.wcec), you can either drag files into the panel on the Upload Components dialog or select Browse for Files to locate a specific file path.
  • The selected files appear in a list on the File Upload dialog.
  • Choose Open.
  • Select Next to import the components from the selected WinCross (*.wcec) file to WinCross Executive. Note: the data file associated with the *.wcec file will need to be uploaded in your My Drive

Those table and banner components that can be imported from WinCross are loaded to the Import Components dialog. Components that were created from WinCross tables that contain only numeric characters for table name are prefixed with TableComponent_ (for example, TableComponent_1) and components that were created from WinCross banners are always prefixed with BannerComponent_ (for example, BannerComponent_30).

  • Choose the dataset from the Choose a dataset dropdown list for use with selecting components from the Imported Components list. The components selected will be associated with the selected dataset. This dataset must have been previously uploaded to WinCross Executive using the Upload option from the My Drive dialog.
  • If there are existing components already associated with the selected dataset, they will be listed in the Components list on the right side of the Import Components dialog.
  • Enable the check box for the desired table and banner components from the Imported Components list. To select all of the components, enable the check box next to the Name heading label or use the Shift key while enabling the check box for the first component and the check box for the last component in the Imported Components list.
  • Select Add.
  • When there are duplicate component names in both the Imported Components list (left side) and the Components list (right side), you are presented with a list of duplicate components and you can choose from the following options:
  • Keep both, and create unique names for the newly added components
  • Overwrite the existing components with the imported components
  • Do not add the components that already exist
  • Select Add after choosing one of these options.

  • When you click on a component in either the Imported Components list (left side) or the Components list (right side), Component Information and Component Logic are displayed below.

  • Use the Create/Modify Components option from the Tabulation Menu dropdown to edit Components associated with this dataset.

  • Use the Crosstabs option from the Tabulation Menu dropdown to build a crosstab from the newly imported components.

  • Use the Charts option from the Tabulation Menu dropdown to build a chart from the newly imported components.
